PALESTINE STATEMENT

The Klimacamp Alto Adige stands in solidarity with the Palestinian people in the ongoing genocide being perpetrated by the Israeli state, as well as their ongoing struggle against colonialism.

We advocate for peace and the eventual demilitarization in the region. However, we recognize the right of the Palestinian people to resist occupation, colonialism and assert their right to self determination by all legitimate means. This right is anchored in international law (Protocol I of the Geneva Conventions¹ and reaffirmed by the UN General Assembly resolution A/RES/38/17²).

We uphold courageous acts of nonviolent resistance—such as those carried out by Youth of Sumud—as expressions of collective dignity and agency. At the same time, we acknowledge that for oppressed peoples, armed resistance may become a necessary means of survival and self-defense. We draw attention to historical and contemporary examples such as the EZLN³ and the YPG⁴, whose missions are centered on the protection of their communities and who have refrained from retaliatory violence.

Our commitment lies in upholding human rights, justice and international law (especially in regards to war crimes, crimes against humanity, crime of agression and genocide).

We adamantly oppose antisemitism (as defined by the Jerusalem Declaration of Antisemitism⁵), Islamophobia, xenophobia, and any form of racism against Palestinians, Arabs, or Muslims. We also reject the dehumanization and demonization of any community. We emphasise that falsely equating this Zionist project with Judaism or people of the Jewish identity is dangerous and inaccurate. Israeli Jews cannot be held indiscriminately accountable for the crimes committed by the Israeli government and military forces. We recognize and support acts of nonviolent civil disobedience carried out by Israeli-Palestinean organizations such as Ta’ayush⁶.

We renounce nationalism, colonialism, ethno-nationalism, fundamentalism, religious fundamentalism (particularly when combined with ethno-nationalism), and all patriarchal, homophobic, and racist ideologies.

The future we are fighting for is one free from violent systems of oppression that deem certain lives as expendable or less worthy of protection. If we believe in climate and ecological justice, we must seek justice in all forms. For this reason the Klimacamp general assembly feels compelled to make this statement.

The camp is a self-organizing collective representing diverse view-points. This statement represents the current consensus of the general assembly and may evolve at any time.
